CAREER and TECHNICAL EDUCATION PATHWAYS

Career and Technical Programs are educational pathways that integrates rigorous academic standards with technical and employability skills to prepare students for both post-secondary education and in-demand careers. CTE programs are designed for all students, including those who are college bound. Each CTE program includes a sequence of four courses that may lead to an industry recognized credential and a graduation cord. Bible Center High School offers five CTE programs. Additional CTE programs may be available at local secondary technical centers. 

Aviation Academy 

Students study theoretical foundations required for the pilot knowledge exam, including meteorology, navigation, aerodynamics, and federal regulations. This CTE pathway introduces students to the science, technology, and operations of the aerospace industry while combining hands-on training to prepare students for professional certifications and post-secondary degrees. This program includes use of flight simulators, AOPA curriculum, and three courses through the Marshall University Aviation Program. 

Sequence of Courses:

1. Introduction to Aviation AOPA 

The course serves as a foundation for advanced exploration in the areas of flying and unmanned aircraft systems. Students will learn about engineering practices, problem solving, and the innovations and technological developments that have made today’s aviation and aerospace industries possible. 

2. Aircraft Systems and Performance AOPA

This course will introduce students to basic aircraft and UAS structures and their major components, principles of flight, and the fundamental physical laws affecting flight. Students will learn about basic aerodynamics and forces that act on aircraft in flight. This course will also introduce main systems found on large and small airplanes and UAS.

3. Private Pilot Ground School AVSC 200 (Dual Enrollment- Marshall University)

This college course provides an introductory overview of aviation fundamentals as required by the Federal Aviation Administration regulations for students pursuing a Private Pilot certificate.

4. Solo Flight Lab AVSC 205 (Dual Enrollment- Marshall University)

This college course prepares students to complete the first solo flight. The course requires 15 flight hours.

5. Private Pilot Cert ASEL Lab AVSC 210 (Dual Enrollment- Marshall University)

This college course prepares students to pass the FAA Private Pilot Practical Exam: ASEL. The course requires 20 flight hours.

Career and Work Skills

Career and Work Skills is a comprehensive course of study designed to equip students with the essential employability and technical competencies required across all industrial and professional sectors. Students may begin this program during senior year. 

Sequence of Courses:

1. Career and Work Skills Training I

This course provides students with skills and knowledge to succeed in professional settings and prepares them for expectations of the workplace. Students will maintain employment throughout the course while integrating skills such as completing job applications, creating cover letters and resumes, and developing interviewing skills.

2. Career and Work Skills Training II

This course explores learning to navigate workplace dynamics and challenges in the workplace using a biblical lens. Students will design a digital portfolio that showcases their strengths and employability skills as part of this course. 

3. Work Experience I

This course provides students with career-focused work experience in their chosen field, while connecting classroom learning to real-world practice. Students build employability and technical skills through hands-on, project-based experiences that reflect authentic workplace expectations.

4. Work Experience II

This course allows students to continue their career-focused work experience through employment or on-the-job training in their chosen field. Through hands-on learning, students strengthen workplace skills, gain industry insight, and prepare for future career opportunities, with strong attendance essential for success.

 

Grow Your Own (Education Pathway) 

The Grow Your Own program is an accelerated program that allows students to complete a significant portion of their professional teacher preparation before high school graduation, potentially finishing their bachelor’s degree in just three years. Students may begin this program during junior year. 

Sequence of Courses:

1. Foundations of Education EDUC 200 (Dual Enrollment- WVSU)

A course designed to introduce candidates to the teaching profession; to give students a first formal experience in the formal study of the dispositions involved in education and help students assess their pre-professional readiness. (Prerequisite: Eligible for English 101)

2. Human Growth and Development EDUC 201 (Dual Enrollment- WVSU)

Study of developmental characteristics of the individual through adulthood. Required of all candidates in teacher education programs. A field experience of 15 clock hours in an appropriate K-12 public school setting is required. (Prerequisite: EDUC 200 with a “C” or better)

3. Educational Psychology EDUC 202 (Dual Enrollment- WVSU)

Survey of educational psychology and related concepts for classroom application. Major emphasis on learning teacher expectation and motivation, educational measurement, and classroom management concepts. A field experience of 25 clock hours in an appropriate K-12 public school setting is required. (Prerequisite: EDUC 201 with a “C” or better)

4. Exceptionalities and Human Diversity (Dual Enrollment- WVSU)

Course emphasis will be placed on recognition and special needs students labeled “exceptional” according to state and federal regulations. Effective instructional strategies for teaching populations such as “gifted”, and “students at risk” for school failure, visually impaired, physically challenged, speech/language handicaps, and behavior disorders will be studied. (Prerequisite: Concurrent w/ EDUC 202 or completion of EDUC 202 with a “C” or better)

Marketing Management

Marketing is an immersive pathway that blends business strategy, creative communications, and data analytics. It prepares students to influence consumer behavior and manage brand identities in a digital economy. Students manage a School Store, providing real-world experience in inventory, pricing, and retail operations. 

Sequence of Courses:

1. Marketing Principles

This course will strengthen a student’s conceptual and analytical skills and improve verbal and written communication abilities. It introduces students to the use of video, digital media, and technology to market goods and services. Students will explore concepts in personal marketing and explore marketing models used by organizations and companies. 

2. Marketing Applications

Students will apply their knowledge of marketing and the use of digital media to create a functional marketing plan and work to create video and social media advertisements. Students will be introduced to careers in marketing management, advertising, marketing research, video production, and digital media.

3. Cross Media Strategies

Cross Media Strategies teaches students the art of integrating a consistent branding message and content creation across many mediums and platforms, both traditional and nontraditional. Such platforms include email, social media, print, to build a cohesive customer experience. 

4. Marketing Internship

The Marketing Internship Experience course offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience in the marketing field. Students will be immersed in the operations of a business, including ethics and legal responsibilities, human resources, market planning, marketing information management, professional development, and selling.

Social Journalism

This pathway teaches students to gather, verify, and distribute news across digital, social, and traditional platforms. It bridges the gap between traditional reporting and modern multimedia storytelling by teaching students to write for the web, produce video news segments, and create engaging social media content. 

Sequence of Courses:

1. Fundamentals of Media Writing

This is an introductory class designed to equip students with the essential skills for various forms of journalistic and mass media writing. This course involves a variety of writing platforms such as print, digital print, and public relations. Students may contribute content to school publications and platforms such as social media, yearbook, website, and announcements. 

2. Cross Media Strategies

Cross Media Strategies teaches students the art of integrating a consistent branding message and content creation across many mediums and platforms, both traditional and nontraditional. Such platforms include email, social media, print, to build a cohesive customer experience. 

3. College English 101 OR AP English Literature

College English 101 is an Introduction to academic writing with emphasis on writing as a multi-stage process, critical thinking, and fundamental research strategies and skills. 

AP English Literature and Composition is an introductory college-level literary analysis course. Students cultivate their understanding of literature through reading and analyzing texts as they explore concepts like character, setting, structure, perspective, figurative language, and literary analysis in the context of literary works. Students will take an AP English Literature exam in May.

4. College English 201 OR AP English Language

College English 201 is an advanced composition course centered on critical reading, writing, and research skills for the disciplines. 

AP English Language and Composition is an introductory college-level composition course. Students cultivate their understanding of writing and rhetorical arguments through reading, analyzing, and writing texts as they explore topics like rhetorical situations, claims and evidence, reasoning and organization, and style. Students will take an AP English Language exam in May.
