For the past few weeks, the hallways were full of school spirit, crazy hair, PJ’s, silly socks, and lots and lots of prizes as the students, teachers, and parents united to raise funds for BCS classrooms.
Thank you parents, grandparents, and friends for a week of generosity and fun! Together we doubled our $15,000 goal and raised over $30,000!
1. Third Grader’s Reading Achievements Earn them a Chick-fil-A Lunch with their Teachers
The accelerated reading (AR) program encourages students to read independently while teachers motivate them with rewards!

Mrs. Arrowood and Mrs. Rohr celebrated with their third grade students who achieved their AR goal last quarter.

The AR program is an amazing program to help students read at their appropriate STAR assessment test development level and at their own pace.

Here’s how the program works:

Students are assigned reading levels based on the STAR reading assessment which provides a baseline.

1st-5th-grade students read on their level and at their own pace.

Students choose their own books based on their personal interests and the level determined by the teacher.

Teachers monitor students’ progress and set goals with point values.

Quizzes are used to assess whether the student has read and understood the book.

AR points are calculated each quarter as students aim to meet their goals.
Why this Matters: Reading is a critical life skill. Reading allows students to continually discover and connect to the world around them. With the Accelerated Reader Program, teachers motivate students to develop a love for reading by building confidence through personal success.
Students get excited about the growth in their reading skills but are even more motivated by the chance to eat lunch with their teacher or swim with their friends at the community pool. Here at BCS, we value life long learners and believe that reading is the key ingredient.
2. Girls Basketball Team Sends Thoughtful Video Message to Coach’s Daughter
The girls basketball team made an inspiring get well message for their coach’s daughter when they found out their coach would be missing practice.

Being part of a BCS middle school sports team means hard practices, and spending time practicing the necessary skills in hopes it will earn them a winning season.

These long nights build some deep relationships and lead to lots of great memories.

Our BCS middle school sports teams coaches are intentional in building unity so the team functions with oneness.
Why this Matters: As I was walking through the gym last Thursday afternoon, I noticed the girls basketball team huddled together speaking the sweetest message into the Coach’s phone. After I snapped the picture, I questioned who the message was for a I wondered which one of their teammates was out sick for the day. The response is what made this a moment that matters. The message wasn’t for their teammate, but was for the young daughter of their guest coach for the week. At BCS, we focus on relationship building. It doesn’t take long to realize that BCS is more than a school… it is a family.
3. Veterans Day Program Honors Those Who Have Served Our Country to Protect Our Freedom
BCS students honor special guests through song, drama, and recognition.

The annual Veteran’s Day program at Bible Center Church is one of the larger, most anticipated programs of the year.

Students welcomed Veterans, parents, friends, and neighbors with signs, cheering, and chanting “U-S-A!”

Kindergarten-2nd grade students and the Middle School Choir put on a very moving patriotic performance thanking Veterans for their service.

The Middle School Leadership Class took part in the Sword and Cake Detail recognizing the oldest and youngest Veteran in the room.

And a special thanks to Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Bohman who did a phenomenal job as the guest speaker — reminding those in attendance that people will always remember the way you make them feel.
Why this Matters: Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor the men and women who have served in our country’s armed forces to protect our freedoms we hold so dearly. Our faculty, staff, students, and parents put their whole heart and soul into making the Veterans Day Program a time where our honored guests felt valued and are recognized for their sacrifice and service. Our students got so excited celebrating our Veterans and using their talents to bring joy through their singing and drama performance. Thank you Veterans for your service!
